Is This Really The Cost To Go To An Orioles Game?

According to a new study, this is how much it costs to go to an Orioles game this year:

  • Two tickets: $41.13
  • Two hot dogs: $3
  • Two beers: $13.50
  • Parking: $8

That’s a total of $65.63. But lots of our listeners are calling shenanigans on the study.

Here’s some of the text response we got:

  • “You’re buying your hot dogs on the outside for three dollars”
  • “The kids hot dogs are $1.50. Each person needs two or three”
  • “Is this article from 1993?”
  • “What?! Where are the seats? Glen Burnie?”

Some people thought it was maybe possible, but you had to work for it:

  • “With cheap standing room only tickets, and if you haggle with the vendor when you park in a lot on a side street, I believe you could go to an O’s game for $65”
  • “$65 if you bring your own hot dogs and get comped the beer, maybe.”

We checked, and the cheapest tickets to an O’s game (including tonight’s) are left field upper box or upper reserve  for $15 each. A $6.50 convenience fee and $4.00 order fee add it up to $40.50 total, slightly cheaper than the study’s number.

The cheapest official Oriole parking, in lots F, G, and H, is $8, so the study is correct there.

For the hot dog and beer, we couldn’t find published prices for this year.

The study ranked the O’s 20th out of 30 on the list of most expensive to least expensive teams. They say the five most expensive teams to see play at home are the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays  and Seattle Mariners.

The five cheapest are the Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers,  Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies and Minnesota Twins.
